For designer Jiang Hengdong, design has always been inseparable and mutually influenced by people and life, and the same is true for travel. With a humble attitude towards Japanese design, Jiang Hengdong participated in the 12th Casaro Design Tour Japan Station. What kind of Japanese style will he feel here? Let’s take a look at his thoughts.

Reporter: Did this journey bring you any new ideas in terms of design work?
Jiang: Yes. We used to always talk about Japanese style, but if you haven’t really gone to Japan to understand the local customs and design styles, the Japanese style you create can only be regarded as imitation and does not have its spiritual core. Through this study tour in Japan, we have an in-depth understanding of local living habits, folk culture and regional customs, and only then can the design we make can be considered a true Japanese style.
Reporter:What does design mean to you? What concepts have you always adhered to in terms of design?
Jiang: Design should be the entire process of life for me. Good design must be people-oriented. This is also the design philosophy that I have been adhering to for more than ten years. Designers should deeply understand each customer's needs in order to make a good design that satisfies customers.
Reporter: Have you encountered any clients that impressed you in your career? Can you share it?
Jiang: The one who impressed me the most was probably a fashion designer. She had been unable to find the right designer until she found me. After a simple communication, we found that we had very similar views on design, so we quickly reached a consensus. In the process of decorationDuring the project, we often communicated, and finally presented a work that included both my design concept and the owner’s ideas.
Reporter: How do you quickly grasp the needs of owners?
Jiang: Experience it from the customer's perspective, understand what he wants most, as well as his living habits and hobbies, and then put yourself into it. Because only by taking on the role of the owner, the design you make will be what you want, and the customer will be very satisfied.
Reporter: Where does the design inspiration for your work come from? How can you keep yourself asource ofconstant design inspiration?
Jiang: See more, listen more, and communicate more. In fact, good design already existed before us. The only thing we can do is to constantly innovate based on the experience accumulated by our predecessors, while not forgetting to retain the excellent things. Only in this way can we make a good design.
It is said that design has no boundaries. Jiang Hengdong designs for love, allowing people to feel happiness in design. For more than ten years in the industry, Jiang Hengdong has been integrating his delicate perception of life into design, designing a better life with a professional attitude, and conveying the power of design to society.
