Tile paving is an issue that everyone is concerned about. The quality of the wall and floor tiles at home greatly affects the aesthetics of the home. Although the traditional construction method is easy to use, due to the certain proportion of cement mortar, if the early operation is unreasonable, it is easy for the tiles to become hollow, or even fall off directly. On the other hand, when cement mortar is applied to the wall, the thickness is generally between 10-15mm, which is relatively thick. Later, after a long period of accumulation and improvement, a relatively mature thin-laying method of construction has emerged, which is why it is called The thin paste method is because the thickness between the ceramic tiles and the wall is only about 3mm after the construction is completed, which can save some space.

What is the ceramic tile thin-laying method?

The thin ceramic tile laying method is the most commonly used ceramic tile laying method today. The thin-laying method was first invented in Germany. It is actually just a ceramic tile paving process compared to the domestic "thick-laying method". The thickness of the adhesive used in China is 15~20mm, but with the thin-pasting method, after scraping the base adhesive into strips, the thickness is only 3~5mm.

What is the difference between thin sticking method and traditional sticking method?

1. Different material requirements

Thick paste method: It is necessary to mix cement and sand with water to prepare cement mortar. Therefore, whether the cement ratio is reasonable, whether the amount of materials is in place, and whether the mixing is uniform will affect the quality of the cement mortar.

Thin-laying method: Use tile adhesive when paving, which can be used directly by mixing with water. There is no need to mix cement mortar on site. The quality standards are easy to grasp, the bonding strength is relatively high, and the construction efficiency is also greatly improved.

2. Different technical level requirements

Thick pasting method: It requires experienced and skilled technical workers for paving. Mixing cement and sand on site is prone to problems. It is highly maneuverable and random, which are all characteristics that affect the quality. If the paving technology is not in place, it is easy to cause problems such as hollowing and cracking of the tiles, and it will be difficult for pavers with insufficient skills to lay the tiles smoothly.

Thin-laying method: Due to its simple operation, professionally trained workers can use ready-mixed tile adhesive for paving, which greatly improves the efficiency of paving.

3. Different process flow requirements

Thick pasting method: The wall needs to be treated and roughened at the base. After the treatment, it can be laid; the ceramic tiles need to be soaked in water.

Thin paste method: In addition to the base treatment and roughening of the wall, it also requires higher flatness of the wall. Generally, the wall needs to be leveled, but the tiles do not need to be soaked in water.

4. Different labor and dosage

Thick pasting method: The general thickness is 10-20 mm, and the cement, sand and ash are 15-20 kg, which increases the burden. From the construction point of view, the bricklayers want to be beautiful and ensure quality. They can usually lay about 8 square meters in a day.

Thin paste method: The thickness only needs 3-5 mm. There is empirical data. The tile adhesive weighs 1.6 kilograms per square meter of area and thickness per millimeter. How much is 3 mm? 5kg. What is 5 mm? 8kg. When the base layer is leveled, 20 square meters can usually be paved in one day.

What are the benefits of choosing the thin paste method?

1. Workers have high construction efficiency and relatively low proficiency requirements for bricklayers;

2. Because the thickness is much lower, it can save a lot of space. The thickness of the tile adhesive used in the thin-laying method is only 3mm, and the strength is also very high, which reduces the space occupied;

3. More importantly, the quality is better, the emptying rate is extremely low, the firmness is super strong, and the price is slightly expensive but acceptable.

Some owner friends asked, if the cost is not considered, is the thin paste method the best choice? Zhongtao Jun thinks it should be understood in this way. First of all, the thin paste method is aimed at wall construction, and floor tiles are not required. Secondly, the thin-pasting method is only suitable for polished tiles and vitrified tiles with extremely low water absorption. Due to the problem of water absorption, these tiles are paved with cement mortar. The cement will slide, causing hollowing and falling off, so ceramic tiles should be used. Binder. In addition, for ceramic tiles with particularly large sizes, it is best to use the thin-laying method.

As for ordinary glazed tiles, traditional methods can be used. Therefore, when owners purchase ceramic tiles, they can easily determine the required paving method by simply asking whether they are buying glazed tiles or vitrified tiles.

In addition, for some inverted tiles (such as the tiles facing down above the door frame) that are greatly affected by gravity, you can consider using tile adhesive to reinforce them.

The thin paste method has higher technical requirements for workers. Because "the adhesive is relatively strong, if it is crooked after it is applied, it is difficult to correct it. This is unlike the traditional application method. If you are not satisfied, there is still the possibility of correction." This feature requires skilled workers. Of course, there are also some small companies that adopt a compromise method, which is to add some cement mortar to the tile adhesive. This reduces costs and reduces technical requirements. Although this is not cutting corners, it can no longer be called a thin paste method.

Ceramic tiles used to be laid thickly with cement mortar, but now there is a new typeThe unique tile adhesive thin-laying method can firmly lay tiles, save labor and materials, and effectively solve the problem of hollowing and falling off of tiles. It has effectively replaced the traditional sticking method and has gradually become popular.

However, there are still many people who don’t know much about the construction process of ceramic tile adhesive, a new thin-laying method. Zhongtaojun will also talk about it here.

Construction process of thin ceramic tiles

1. Grassroots processing

Before construction, it is necessary to confirm that the base surface is flat, solid, and free of hollows, looseness, and oil stains. For base surfaces that are too uneven, cement mortar or tile adhesive can be used to level and trim them first, with curing agents, release agents, and other smoother materials. The concrete surface needs to be roughened before construction.

2. Mixing ingredients

First pour clean water into the bucket, then pour in a scientific proportion of tile glue (the mixing ratio of Dajiang tile glue is, water:powder=1:4, there are clear construction instructions on the packaging), and then use an electric Stir thoroughly with a mixer until it becomes a paste with no particles or precipitation. Let it stand for 5 to 10 minutes before use. It is best to stir slightly again when using.

3. Paving

Different from cement mortar paving, when paving with tile adhesive, the tiles and base surface do not need to be soaked and moistened. You only need to use a plaster knife on the base surface to apply a thin layer of tile adhesive about 1 to 2 mm. layer of glue to enhance the contact effect with the base surface, followed by a thick batch of tile glue, and use a serrated trowel of appropriate specifications to comb the tile glue into uniform lines.

Then scrape the tile adhesive evenly on the back of the tile (reminder: before scraping the tile adhesive, use a brush to remove dust and debris on the back of the tile), and paste the tile on the tile adhesive on the wall, using a rubber hammer Tap gently until the tile adhesive is dense and make sure it is level and vertical.

4. Caulking

Depending on the quality and size of the tiles, expansion joints ranging from 1 to 5 mm must be reserved during paving construction. 24 hours after the ceramic tiles are laid, the gaps between the tiles must be filled. During the gap filling operation, use a rubber trowel to press the grout laterally and fill it into the gaps between the tiles. Note that the gaps between the tiles must be fully filled and the surface Pressure is smooth.

5. Cleanup

After the caulking agent solidifies, use a dry cloth to clean the remaining caulking agent on the ceramic tile surface, and at the same time clean the surface of the floor tiles.Clean up.

Another advantage of the thin-laying method is that you only need to add water and stir when using tile adhesive, and it can remain relatively uniform after stirring. When laying tiles, it not only has good adhesion, but also prevents the tiles from appearing. There is no hollowing phenomenon, and the wall installation operation is very simple, which can increase the construction speed and shorten the construction period.
