Brick Selection for Decoration·Issue 4

If you want the tile paving effect to be good, you must choose the right paving method. Ceramic tile laying is a particularly important link in the decoration process. If you choose the wrong laying method, it will easily cause large areas of tiles to hollow out and fall off. Later repairs will cost a lot of time and money, so it is recommended that you understand it before decorating. The correct way to lay ceramic tiles.

The laying methods of ceramic tiles can be divided into two main types: thick laying method and thin laying method. The thick laying method includes dry laying method and wet laying method of ceramic tiles. So, what is the difference between them?

01

Dry laying method of tiles

In order to prevent bubbles, hollows and other phenomena from occurring during the laying process of floor tiles, the dry tile laying method is recommended for the laying of floor tiles.

When using the dry laying method of ceramic tiles, the base layer must first be watered and moistened, and the floating sand and debris on the base layer must be removed before applying the binding layer. Then use dry cement mortar with a ratio of 1:3, lay it flat according to the horizontal line, place the bricks on the mortar and tap it with a rubber hammer. Finally, remove the floor tiles and pour cement mortar on them, then place the floor tiles firmly and level them.

Because dry cement mortar contains less water, gaps are less likely to appear between the floor tiles and the mortar, so it can effectively avoid tile hollowing and falling off.

Wet ceramic tile laying method

Different from the dry laying method, the wet laying method of ceramic tiles does not require watering to moisten the base layer. It uses ordinary cement mortar directly, spreads it on the back of the ceramic tiles for paving, and uses a leather hammer to level it. The wet laying method is often used for laying ceramic tiles on walls and small sizes.

Tile thin paste method

The thin pasting method is a new ceramic tile pasting process originated in Germany. It adopts a dry work pasting method of kneading and squeezing for solid positioning. When decorating, use a special tile adhesive and a toothed scraper to scrape the tile adhesive into stripes on the construction base surface, and then paste the tiles on the cement in sequence.

The thin paste method adopts the method of "tile adhesive + back glue". Since the adhesive relies on intermolecular force to bond, it has higher strength. The bonding strength is that of traditional mortar. 3-4 times, and can be used directly by adding water, no need to mix cement mortar on site.

02

With so many paving methods, which one is better and more practical? After comparing from the following five aspects, I believe you will have the answer in your mind.

Application Space

The dry laying method is mainly used for paving dry floors such as living rooms and bedrooms, while the wet laying method or thin laying method is recommended for floor tiles in kitchens and bathrooms.

Application Scope

Dry paving method cannot be used for laying wall tiles, but wet paving method and thin laying method can be used for laying wall tiles and floor tiles. It is worth noting that the adhesive used in both dry and wet paving methods is cement mortar, and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development has issued a document prohibiting the use of this process for the paving of exterior wall tiles.

Grassroots requirements

The dry paving method has higher requirements for the base layer than the wet paving method, because the mortar of dry paving has less moisture. If the base layer is not fully moistened, it will absorb a large amount of water in the mortar, thus causing the The bond between the mortar and the base layer is not strong, which ultimately affects the paving effect. In addition, the dry paving method has lower requirements for the flatness of the base layer, so there is generally no need to level the ground.

On the contrary, the wet laying method and the thin laying method have higher requirements for the flatness of the base layer. Among them, the thin laying method is the most stringent. The base layer must not be loose or uneven. In addition, the surface plastering error cannot exceed 4 mm, otherwise the amount of tile adhesive will be increased.

Ground thickness

In terms of ground thickness, the mortar thickness for dry paving is relatively large, about 3-4cm; for wet paving, cement is directly applied behind the ceramic tiles and then laid on the ground, which can reduce the Ground thickness: The thin-sticking method uses a small amount of adhesive and has strong bonding force, so the ground thickness is very thin. Therefore, from the perspective of thickness, dry paving method > wet paving method > thin laminating method.

Construction Cost

Floor tiles adopt dry laying methodIt is more time-consuming and tests the skills of the construction master, so generally speaking, the dry paving method is more expensive than the wet paving method. The thin-paste method has higher requirements for the flatness of the wall and floor. It requires leveling the wall and floor first, which requires more and longer processes. Not only is the labor cost relatively high, but the materials used are also more expensive than traditional cement mortar. Slightly higher. Generally speaking, the construction costs of the three methods from high to low are: thin paving method, dry paving method, and wet paving method.

The three paving techniques each have their own advantages and disadvantages. They need to be selected based on their own actual conditions and operated by experienced decorators. This is the key to ensuring construction quality.

I have chosen the paving method, but if I don’t pay attention to the small details during paving, I still cannot achieve the expected effect. Therefore, Zhongtaojun summarized the following three tips for ceramic tile paving. precautions.

(1) Soaking

Many people think that all ceramic tiles need to be soaked in water, but the answer is actually no. Whether the ceramic tiles need to be soaked in water depends on the situation. When the water absorption rate of the ceramic tile is less than 0.5%, there is no need to soak it in water in advance. If the water absorption rate is greater than 10%, it needs to be soaked in water before paving. When soaking ceramic tiles in water, the glaze surface should be facing up and the blank side should be facing down. Otherwise, it will easily lead to chipping of the edges and corners of the ceramic tiles. After soaking in water, when taking the tiles out, you need to lay a layer of leather paper on the ground, place the tiles back against the wall, with the glaze facing up.

(2) Leave a seam

During the production process of ceramic tiles, there will be reasonabledimensional error, and the same is true during the paving process. In addition, ceramic tiles undergo thermal expansion and contraction, and will expand and contract to a certain extent when the ambient temperature changes. If there are no gaps between the bricks during paving, they will easily squeeze and arch upward, leading to hollowing or cracking. In order to avoid this problem after decoration, sufficient gaps should be left when paving.

(3) Ceramic tile cutting

Different space areas require different sizes of ceramic tiles. When cutting ceramic tiles, be sure to make the cuts smooth and consistent in size. In addition, it is best to cut the tiles outside the corners, which will not affect the aesthetics of the room and can be easily sealed with sealant.

If you want to easily solve various problems in laying tiles, you can directly choose ceramic tile brands that have launched a complete finished product delivery service system, such as Oceano, Eagle Brand, Nobel, and Jianyi , Shunhui, Mona Lisa, etc., provide customers with one-stop services from material selection, design, paving to overall spatial effect delivery, which not only saves time and effort but also ensures the quality of decoration.
